Colombia superstar James Rodriguez has received harrowing death threats on social media as revealed by his mother.
The Real Madrid ace was forced to withdraw from the squad for their 2018 World Cup qualifying matches against Paraguay and Uruguay to rehab on his injured calf.
His decision then prompted a barrage of abuse directed at him and his mother from a group calling themselves 'Legion Holk' with images accompanied with guns and other weaponry.

Bolivian football journalist Juan Pasten then brought to light another another chilling message received by Rodriguez' mother; "James Rodríguez threatened in Socialmedia by group Legion Holk. The mother of the footballer received messages next to a box of weapons."
The disturbing messages bare extra weight considering the nations dark history. Colombian international Andres Escobar was shot dead aged just 27 in 1994, five days after the national team had been knocked out of the World Cup as retribution for scoring the own goal that sealed the team's fate.
