It's not that long ago that Wales were holding Portugal to a 0-0 draw at half-time and potentially just 45 minutes away from the final of Euro 2016. Now Chris Coleman looks to be headed for Sunderland and a Championship relegation battle.

Chris Coleman helped to do miracles with Wales as he helped them qualify for Euro 2016 which meant they headed to their first major international tournament since the World Cup in 1958 when they went to France.

Not only did the Welsh go to France but they also defied all belief by topping their group with England and then beating Northern Ireland and Belgium in the knock-out stages before losing to Portugal.

The Red Dragons then tried to brush themselves down and qualify for the World Cup next summer. A loss in the last game of qualifying handed a play-off spot to Republic of Ireland and they were out.

Coleman was always likely to step down following that relative failure of missing Russia and according to the Daily Mail he will do that over the weekend and be made manager of Sunderland on Sunday.

It has been a dismal 2017 for the Black Cats who were relegated from the Premier League, have seen two managers leave and are yet to register a win at home all year.

They sacked Simon Grayson in October following their draw with Bolton, a match in which they were ahead at home for the first time in 2017, and Robbie Stockdale will continue to be caretaker this weekend against Millwall.

Coleman would be in the hotseat by the time the Wearsiders take on Aston Villa on Tuesday which would obviously be his debut match as manager.

It certainly is a big change for Coleman and he'll be managing a team without a star like Gareth Bale but if he can get the best out of his players at the Stadium of Light as he did in Wales they could yet stay up!
