Claudio Ranieri's ruthless sacking last week remains the main talking point not just at Leicester City but the Premier League. But it appears they are close to filling their managerial vacancy.

Assistant manager Craig Shakespeare has taken in charge as caretaker, and he got his reign off to a brilliant start by securing three vital points against Liverpool.

The Foxes rediscovered their form from last season as Jamie Vardy bagged a brace while Danny Drinkwater scored a sublime goal.

The 3-1 victory steered them out of the relegation spaces, moving them up a few spots to 15th, two points clear of safety.

But while it appeared Shakespeare was in contention to get the main gig, news is breaking that the club have held secret talks with Roy Hodgson.

Reports from the Mail claim that Hodgson met Leicester's representatives in London last Friday in view to becoming their new manager.

The clubs owner Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha is believed to have taken a liking to the ex-England boss for his wealth of experience.

He's managed Bristol City, Blackburn Rovers, Fulham, Liverpool and West Brom as well as a host of clubs from around Europe.

Including Inter Milan, Udinese, Grasshoppers, to name but a few.

(Will Hodgson get the job?)

The 69-year-old is currently out of work after being relieved of his duties as England boss following their disastrous Euro 2016, which culminated in the embarrassing defeat to Iceland.
