Arsenal fans criticised for shining laser in Mykhailo Mudryk face

Mudryk came up against Arsenal for the first time since his move to the Emirates Stadium didn't materialise.

Arsenal fans were criticised on Tuesday night, after Chelsea forward Mykhailo Mudryk had a laser pen shone in his eye during the game.

So much has happened at Chelsea since that the Mudryk transfer saga feels like a couple of lifetimes ago, it's certainly a manager ago for the Blue.

In January, and in the months before, it looked certain that the Ukrainian forward would be moving to Arsenal from Shakhtar, with the Gunners desperate to sign him and him seemingly desperate to make the move.

However, at the last moment, a transfer thirsty Todd Boehly, who made eight signings in that transfer window, decided to splash the cash on him instead, with Mudryk moving on very quickly from his love of Arsenal.

Tuesday was the first time that the former Shakhtar Donetsk player had the privilege to play against the side he looked certain to join as a Chelsea player.

It wasn't exactly a great night for Mudryk, or any of his teammates, with Mikel Arteta's side going into an early lead and never relinquishing it.

The 22-year-old was brought on in the second half and wasn't given the nicest of receptions by the home fans, who booed his every touch.

During one run, it was very clearly spotted on the Sky Sports cameras that a fan was shining a green laser straight in the forward's face.

Fans on social media were understandably annoyed at the behaviour and criticised the actions of the miscreant, "Whoever that prick in the crowd shining a laser on Mudryk is, I hope you get banned," said one Arsenal supporter.

"The fan who constantly shone a laser in Mudryk’s eyes / direction should be banned for a good long time. You are disrespectful and lack class. You are a disgrace to sportsmanship. This is not how we conduct ourselves," added a second.

A third exclaimed, "I don’t respect the fan who decided to shine a laser in Mudryk’s eyes, as a club we need to have a zero tolerance policy for that.

A fourth, non-Arsenal supporter, noted, "Arsenal fans are despicable. Shining a laser in Mudryk’s face is just beyond a joke. Shameful."

And a fifth pleaded, "Laser pointers on Mudryk’s face. Cmon, let’s have some class. Better than that."

"Whoever that is pointing lasers at Mudryk just stop it. Unacceptable behaviour," stated a sixth.

Mudryk's time in west London has not lived up to expectations, or his cost, so far, but he has not been helped by the issues with the team.

Tuesday was the latest episode for Frank Lampard to combat, as he fell to his sixth straight defeat since taking over from Graham Potter on an interim basis.

The Gunners on the other hand got back to winning ways and back to the top of the table, as their title battle with Manchester City continues.
