Inter Miami enter negotiations with another former teammate of Lionel Messi, they're getting the band back together

Lionel Messi could be about to reunite with another former teammate.

Inter Miami have entered talks with one of Lionel Messi's international teammates over a potential summer transfer, according to reports.

Since his much-anticipated move last summer, several familiar faces have joined Messi at the MLS club

Shortly after former Barcelona coach Gerardo "Tata" Martino arrived in Fort Lauderdale, ex-teammates Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba made their way to America on free transfers.

And five months later, Luis Suarez reunited with his close friend and former teammate as he penned a one-year deal with the club, who are co-owned by David Beckham.

Now, as Inter Miami look to strengthen in the summer, a report from journalist Leonardo Paradizo may suggest that another one of Messi's close friends could be on his way.

Speaking to ESPN F12 on air, the reporter claimed that Angel Di Maria is seriously considering a switch to Miami, with conversations about a move mentioned.

"Di Maria's talks with Inter Miami have already begun and he is seriously evaluating the possibility of going to play with Messi starting in July," Paradizo said via El Nacional.

He added: "Fideo [his nickname] likes it and the possibility is there."

Di Maria's contract with Portuguese side Benfica will expire at the end of the 2023/24 season – and the above report suggests he is currently 'evaluating' different destinations.

The 36-year-old only joined Roger Schmidt's side last summer after leaving Juventus as a free agent.

Di Maria and Messi, of course, helped Argentina lift a historic World Cup in 2022.

And earlier this year, previously unseen footage of a heartwarming moment between the pair emerged following their dramatic final win over two-time champions France.

During the open-top bus parade, Di Maria embraced his Argentine teammate and said: "For me, playing with you on a team is what I wanted, man. And winning it, winning this trophy with you."

In a monologue recorded for the documentary, the Benfica winger added: "It became more about him than about me. I wanted to win the World Cup for him.

"Without a doubt, for me, he is the greatest in history."
