Michael Owen Says Liverpool Are Still The 'Best Team' In Europe, Rio Ferdinand Had Perfect Response

That's despite Liverpool losing to Real Madrid in the Champions League final.

Michael Owen has sensationally claimed that Liverpool are still the 'best team in Europe' despite losing the Champions League final.

Liverpool suffered a crushing 1-0 defeat to Real Madrid in the Champions League final on Saturday.

But the loss hasn't hampered Liverpool's reputation as the best club in Europe, according to Owen who believes they are still the No.1 team in Europe.

Speaking after the showpiece event in Paris, he told BT Sport: "Liverpool are still the best team in Europe."

Fellow pundit and Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand put Owen in his place with a brilliant comeback.

"How can you call them the best team in Europe if they lost the league and the Champions League final in the last two weeks?" He said.

Klopp's team lost out on the Premier League title to Manchester City last weekend and, of course, the Champions League to Real.

However, they end the 2021/22 season with the EFL Cup and FA Cup, having fought on four fronts this campaign.

On his side's defeat, Klopp said: "In the dressing room nobody feels it was a great season at the moment.

"We maybe need a few hours for that. It was the two decisions against us were the smallest margins possible.

"We played a good game, not a perfect game. I don't think a perfect game is possible against an opponent set up with a deep formation.

"We had a lot of shots but not the clearest. Courtois made two top saves. We conceded a goal from a throw-in. Valverde wanted to shoot, Vinicius was there and that's it.

"It feels different. It's not bad to get to the final. It's a kind of success. Not the success you want to have."
