Manchester United footballer Mason Greenwood has been released on bail after being charged with attempted rape.

The 21-year-old has also been charged with assault and controlling and coercive behaviour.

All three charges relate to the same woman.

He has now been granted bail after a hearing at Minshull Street Crown Court in Manchester.

The player appeared at Manchester Magistrates' Court on Monday and was remanded in custody, after being arrested on Saturday morning on suspicion of breaching his previous bail conditions.

After Wednesday's hearing, a spokesperson for the court said bail had been granted with conditions not to contact witnesses, including the complainant, and to reside at an address on Bow Green Road in Bowdon, Sky News has reported.

Greenwood did not appear for the short hearing and is next due to appear at court on November 21.

He was originally arrested in January on suspicion of rape and assault of a woman, before being further arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and threats to kill.

The footballer has been suspended by Manchester United since the allegations emerged in a series of social media posts.

His last game for the Premier League club came on January 22 against West Ham.

Nike also suspended and later terminated its sponsorship deal with the England international.

Meanwhile, Electronic Arts confirmed he had been removed from active squads on its FIFA games.
