Fans furious with one Man Utd player in Omonia Nicosia game, he'll be wondering how he didn't score

Fans furious with one Man Utd player in Omonia Nicosia game, he'll be wondering how he didn't score

United absolutely peppered the away goal but were lucky to find a way past Francis Uzoho as their Europa League chances took a knock.

Manchester United fans couldn't believe that one player couldn't find a way to break the deadlock, as Erik ten Hag's side were lucky to beat Omonia Nicosia.

United were in desperate need for all three points at home to Nicosia on Thursday night, having already dropped points in their home tie with Real Sociedad earlier in the season.

A failure to finish top of the group will mean facing one of the sides dropping down from the Champions League into the Europa League, which could mean facing Barcelona or Juventus.

They would have expected to batter the visiting side, having already beaten them at home, but Neil Lennon's backup goalkeeper Francis Uzoho had an absolutely storming first half.

The Nigeria keeper, who is actually a United fan, continued to have an excellent game in the second half, but fans were still out for blood for one of their own players.

Rather than allow the excuse of the keeper's excellent display, United fans took to social media to ask how in the world Marcus Rashford wasn't able to score.

"Rashford could have equalled his entire goals from the 21/22 season in just 70 minutes here," one fan said, with the striker having equalled last season's record already this season, but looking unable to add to it tonight.

"Bruno’s passing and Rashford’s shooting is like throwing spaghetti at the wall and hope that some of them keep sticking," another added.

After 10 shots without managing a goal, one fan asked, "What's the most shots in a game by a single player without scoring? Rashford is killing me right now."

Another clearly didn't realise how many the England international had, asking, "How many chances does Rashford have to miss here before he gets hooked? Are they waiting for him to hit double figures or what?"

Pointing out how good the keeper was, another said, "Some of these chances were good goalkeeping, but others should have been buried. Two chances in particular by Rashford were inexcusable."

"Rashford is a baller and ass at the same time," a sixth fan said, explaining that the 24-year-old somehow had both a good and terrible game at the same time.

A final supporter pointed out that despite United's eventual win, Rashford still didn't have a great game, "Don't let this win distract you from the fact that Rashford delivered a hall of shame performance tonight.

"Could've easily bagged 3-4 goals and killed the game off."

He wasn't the only one to have a poor attacking performance, with Cristiano Ronaldo and Antony rarely in the game, and Bruno Fernandes frustrating fans.

They were all saved late on by Scott McTominay, who came off the bench to grab United's only goal of the game, in injury time.

It was the team's 34th shot of the game and the Scotsman became the first United substitute to score an injury time goal in Europe since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's winner in the 1999 Champions League final.
