"I was told..." - Sky Sports reporter claims agent behind Man Utd transfer rumour

"I was told..." - Sky Sports reporter claims agent behind Man Utd transfer rumour

The former Premier League star had no input.

Manchester United have been recently linked with Bayern Munich striker Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, with ten Hag seeking cheaper alternatives to Cristiano Ronaldo.

However, Sky Sports journalist Dharmesh Sheth has quashed the rumours, believing them to be the work of the player's agent and not his personal wishes.

Speaking on the Stretford Paddock Podcast, Sheth stated: “There was also talk of Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting as well, but with regard to Moting, I was told that that was agent driven, as it stands that is, even though he’s only got six months left on his contract.”

Is Choupo-Moting still an option?

Fans were initially surprised by the rumours, given his age. However, the 33-year-old has looked clinical in a Bayern Munich shirt, scoring 11 goals in 16 appearances for the German giants.

And with Anthony Martial the club's only senior recognised number nine, a proven goalscorer would provide useful back-up.

Choupo-Moting has Premier League experience too, having played for Stoke City five years ago. Despite only scoring five times in 30 appearances, his goalscoring stats have dramatically improved since, with the player ranking in the top 2% of strikers for goals and assists.

Erik ten Hag may consider a loan option for the Cameroon international, providing him with immediate back-up being tied to the player.

Former manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer did something similar with Odion Ighalo, signing him on loan to provide further depth in attack. The ex-Watford striker went on to prove useful in the Europa League, although his wage bill was questioned by fans.

Manchester United launch bid for Joao Felix

Elsewhere, the Red Devils are thought to be interested in signing Atletico Madrid star Joao Felix on loan, with the player seeking a way out following a dispute with manager Diego Simeone.

It was reported that the club have submitted an official £3.5million bid for his services. The amount remains considerably below Atletico's asking price, but with tensions rising in the Spanish capital, Atletico may have to cut their losses.

They face competition from Premier League rivals Arsenal who are also said to be after his signature.
