£45m player could turn down Real Madrid for Man United - ten Hag is "obsessed"

AC Milan playmaker Brahim Díaz could choose to join Manchester United over a Real Madrid return, according to reports.

AC Milan playmaker Brahim Díaz could opt to join Manchester United over making a Real Madrid return, according to reports.

While the 23-year-old is technically a Real Madrid player, he is in his third season on loan at the Rossoneri.

Milan are reportedly exploring the possibility of signing Díaz permanently upon the end of his loan deal, though the Spain international also appears to have admirers further afield.

According to the Spanish publication Nacional, Man Utd have held talks with Diaz, and offered the player a central role in the side if he opts to move to Old Trafford.

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag is said to have become “obsessed” with Diaz while the club have held “several meetings” with the player to convince him against returning to Los Blancos.

Diaz has shone at Milan since his 2020 move. He was a key part of last term’s Scudetto-winning squad, while this season the former Manchester City man has racked up four goals and one assist in just seven starts.

He also found the net on his full Spain debut against Lithuania last year, though has not made an appearance for his national side since.

However, a potential sticking point in Diaz making a move to Old Trafford is an alleged antI-Manchester United clause inserted in his Real Madrid contract.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, if Real were to sell the star to Erik ten Hag's side specifically, Man City would receive 40 percent of any transfer fee.

The clause almost guarantees Los Blancos would receive more money if they sold Diaz to any other club.

The 23-year-old was at Manchester City from 2016 to 2019 and was widely tipped to have a stellar career, though things didn’t quite work out at the Etihad.

He has since only made 15 appearances for Real Madrid.
