Manchester United Target Will 'Go To War' To Force Move

Whilst Frenkie de Jong is determined to stay at Barcelona, another United target is ready to do anything in order to make sure he moves.

Manchester United target Lisandro Martinez is reportedly ready to 'go to war' with current side Ajax, in order to force his move to Old Trafford.

It has so far been a pretty frustrating summer for United, and new boss Erik ten Hag, as the club have struggled in their pursuit of incoming transfers.

Tyrell Malacia is the only confirmed signing, and he's already impressing in training, but another option at left back is far from the team's priority.

There has been frustration over their move for number one target Frenkie de Jong, with the Dutchman wanting to stay at Barcelona, despite the club's need to sell players over their financial problems.

Whilst they wait on De Jong, Ten Hag is also hoping to add another of the players he managed at Ajax, with Martinez his top priority at centre back.

The Eredivisie champions are asking for £50 million and are unwilling to come down, with United having most recently offered £43 million.

According to the Mirror, the 24-year-old is willing to 'go to war' with his current club to force a move, with fellow players believing he's kicked his final ball for the club.

It's reckoned that the defender, who has also filled in as a defensive midfielder, could be willing to refuse to train as he begins to lose patience with his current club.

The delay and refusal to drop their price came from the belief that they could start a bidding war between United and fellow Premier League side Arsenal.

Mikel Arteta wanted the Argentina international but his plan was to use the defender as a left back, despite him playing all 23 league games in the previous campaign as a centre back.

It seems that no war will take place however, with Martinez clearly setting his sights on a reunion with Ten Hag, just weeks after the 52-year-old left Amsterdam.

The new manager will want any deal wrapping up quickly, so the defender can fly out and join the team on their tour of Asia and Australia.

He won't want to anger his former club too much however, as the former Bayern Munich II's coach also has his eyes on another player at the Johan Cruyff Arena.

22-year-old forward Antony is United's top forward target and they are in need of reinforcements at the top end of the pitch, especially with Cristiano Ronaldo wanting to leave the club.

Aside from the Brazilian, the Premier League side have also been linked with moves for Paulo Dybala, who is reportedly willing to take a pay cut.

Brian Brobbey is another that Ten Hag has spoken too, but the RB Leipzig striker, who really doesn't want to be there, is expected to move to Ajax.
