Manchester United have made their first major signing of the summer transfer window with Tyrell Malacia joining the Red Devils from Feyenoord.

United are understood to have paid around £13m for the Netherlands international, who has signed a four-year deal at Old Trafford with the option to extend for a further year.

The 22-year-old left-back becomes Erik ten Hag's first signing since his appointment as United manager.

Malacia had looked destined for a move to Lyon this summer before United hijacked their deal for the defender.

He arrived in Manchester on Sunday to undergo a medical, with United confirming the transfer on Tuesday.

"It's an incredible feeling to have joined Manchester United. This is a new chapter for me, a new league with new team-mates and a tremendous manager leading us," Malacia told United's website.

"I know from playing against his teams in the Eredivisie, the qualities that he has and what he demands of his players.

"Whilst I know that I am still young and will continue to develop, I can promise the United fans that I will leave everything on the pitch every time I pull on the red shirt. I'll always be thankful to Feyenoord for all they have given to me and my family.

"None of this would be possible if it wasn't for them. Now I'm ready to focus on the future with United, and help my new club achieve success."

Malacia is set to challenge first-choice left-back Luke Shaw for a starting place this season.

An experienced player for his age, Malacia made 129 appearances for Feyenoord and was part of the side that reached the final of the UEFA Europa Conference League final last season.

He has also won five caps for the Netherlands, having made his senior debut for his country against Montenegro in a World Cup qualifier in September.

"Tyrell is an exciting, dynamic young footballer with excellent experience for his age, including five seasons in the Eredivisie, a European final and full international honours for the Netherlands," added United's football director John Murtough.

"We look forward to seeing him continue to develop under the guidance of Erik ten Hag and his coaching team in the years ahead.

"Everyone at Manchester United welcomes Tyrell to the club."

In addition to Malacia, United have been linked with several other Eredivisie players, including Ajax duo Antony and Lisandro Martinez as Ten Hag looks to raid his former club.

United are also in talks with Barcelona over a deal to sign former Ajax midfielder Frenkie de Jong.

The Netherlands international is said to be keen to remain at Barcelona but the Catalan club have reportedly informed him he would need to take a pay cut to stay at the Nou Camp.

According to multiple reports, United have now agreed an initial £56.2m fee for De Jong, with a move to Old Trafford looking increasingly likely for the midfielder.
