A midfielder has been ruled out of Manchester United’s crucial Europa League clash with Sevilla.

United take on Sevilla at Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium needing a positive result to qualify for the Europa League semi-final.

The tie is delicately poised after United squandered a two-goal advantage to draw 2-2 in the first leg at Old Trafford.

And while Erik ten Hag’s men are favourites, they will not be taking the La Liga side lightly. Though Sevilla have struggled domestically this term, they are Europa League specialists, having won the trophy a record six times, including four times in the last nine years.

Nevertheless, Ten Hag insisted he was "confident" his side can overcome Los Nervionenses on Thursday and progress to the last four of the competition, where they will either play Sporting or Juventus.

And Sevilla have suffered an injury blow ahead of the crucial fixture.

Joan Jordan out vs Man Utd

On Wednesday morning the Spanish media expressed concern regarding the potential absence of Sevilla midfielder Joan Jordan for Thursday’s quarter-final second leg.

While the 28-year-old had missed the reverse fixture with an Achilles problem, he played during Sevilla’s 2-0 win over relegation-threatened Valencia at the weekend.

However, Sevilla released a statement confirming that Jordan would not feature against United after showing discomfort in his left ankle.

The club statement, translated from Spanish, read: “Joan Jordan will be out for the game against Manchester United and the next ones, due to some discomfort in his left ankle, inform the Sevilla FC Medical Services.

“Jordan had been playing with discomfort in recent [games] and the pain has worsened after a blow suffered in the clash against Valencia, for which he will be treated with physiotherapy and rehabilitation work to try to overcome said discomfort.

“The treatment will last according to the evolution of the ailment.”
