Mason Mount passes Man Utd medical as Fabrizio Romano reveals goodbye message to Chelsea

Mason Mount passes Man Utd medical as Fabrizio Romano reveals goodbye message to Chelsea

It's big news.

Mason Mount has passed a medical ahead of his move from Chelsea to Manchester United, it has been claimed.

Last week it emerged that United had agreed to sign Mount from Chelsea on a five-year contract for £55million, plus £5million in add-ons.

The England international will become Erik ten Hag’s first summer signing as the Dutchman looks to add to his side following qualification for next season’s Champions League.

It is understood Chelsea preferred not to lose Mount, but were unable to successfully negotiate a new contract, with the 24-year-old's deal set to expire next year.

The midfielder, who has scored 33 goals in 195 Chelsea appearances since making his senior debut in 2019, missed the end of the domestic season with injury as the Blues came 12th - their lowest finish in over 25 years.

Romano says Mount confirmation imminent

On Twitter, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano claimed Mount had successfully completed his United medical and that an announcement was imminent.

The Italian added that the player would share a goodbye message with the Chelsea faithful, where he has played since he was six, before being unveiled by United.

Romano wrote: "Mason Mount’s medical was fine and successfully completed — waiting for Manchester United announcement.

"Mount’s expected to share his ‘goodbye’ message to Chelsea — then Manchester United will unveil Mount as their first summer signing."

According to Sky Sports Mount opted to sign for United over remaining at Chelsea or joining Liverpool due to a strong pitch by Ten Hag, who has followed the player closely since 2018.

United's backroom and recruitment teams are said to have put together a video showing how Mount's playing style would work with Ten Hag's principles. Moreover, they pinpointed the areas in the player's game that could still be improved under the Dutchman's coaching.

Mount won the Champions League in 2021 with Chelsea, starting the final as the Blues beat Manchester City 1-0 win. He also won the Fifa Club World Cup and Uefa Super Cup with the Blues.

The player has been capped 36 times by England, netting five goals, and was part of Gareth Southgate's squad for last year's World Cup in Qatar.
