Manchester United Forced To Delete Embarrassing Tweet After Brighton Loss

Manchester United Forced To Delete Embarrassing Tweet After Brighton Loss

United's social media is reportedly under pressure from the new chief and they hastily deleted a tweet about Erik ten Hag.

Manchester United were forced to hastily a tweet, after backlash from the social media post following their loss to Brighton at the weekend.

United put on one of their worst performances of the season on Saturday evening, as they lost 4-0 to Graham Potter's side, which is actually quite the achievement considering the long list of dreadful performances they have to choose from.

Understandably fans of the club are not exactly in a good mood as their season has gone from title race hope, to top four challenge to abject failure in every single target, and finishing with their lowest points total in Premier League history.

So it's no surprise that they reacted quite badly after the club's social media team posted on Twitter with a cheery update about incoming boss Erik ten Hag on Monday.

They posted "Erik ten Hag's side maintained their advantage in a dramatic afternoon in the race for the Eredivisie title," following Ajax's draw at the weekend, and had to delete it after the response was not exactly favourable.

"I don't know how many times this season I've said surely it can't get worse and it does," one replier said.

"Imagine posting this on the clubs official twitter. No wonder they deleted it. Absolute f***ing embarrassment we are!" another added, as the abuse forced the deletion.

Ajax may have dropped points at the weekend, in a 2-2 draw against AZ Alkmaar, but title rivals PSV also drew their game, meaning Ten Hag still looks likely to capture a third Eredivisie before moving to England.

The tweet about the incoming manager wasn't actually the only one that was deleted, with a now infamous post from the opening day of the season also being binned off.

Following a 5-1 win against Leeds United at the start of their league campaign, United actually went top and their social media team posted a "Don't say it" tweet alongside a picture of the table, after one game, but it's finally gone after a season of embarrassment.

The deleted tweets come alongside a report from Daily Mail that the club's new chief executive Richard Arnold, who took over from Ed Woodward at the end of the year, isn't happy with the social media strategy at the club.

Director of communications, Charlie Brooks left earlier in the year and Arnold has already started implementing changes to the team.

The club's and players' use of social media has been criticised in the past for how generic some of their posts have been, especially in the wake of losses.

Whilst a tweet about the team pressing also caused outrage by the fans, as the club have continued to get pretty much nothing right all year.
