Man Utd transfer target was once guilty of 'the worst miss of all-time'

Man Utd transfer target was once guilty of 'the worst miss of all-time'

Could the Stoke City flop be on his way to Old Trafford?

Manchester United have reportedly shown interest in former Paris Saint-Germain and Stoke City striker Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting.

The current Bayern Munich striker last played in the Premier League for the Potters back in 2018 and has since gone on to play in a Champions League final.

The 33-year-old only scored five goals in 30 English top-flight appearances but United are reportedly considering a move for the Cameroonian.

French outlet, Mediafoot, have claimed Erik ten Hag's United could be prepared to offer the striker a new deal as his contract is set to expire next summer.

Striker links to Old Trafford are only going to hot up as we approach the January transfer window.

Cristiano Ronaldo is yet to find his shooting boots this season and is reportedly desperate for an exit after failing to find a new club in the summer.

Anthony Martial was sensational in pre-season for Ten Hag's side but has yet to rediscover that form after suffering multiple injury set-backs.

This season, Choupo-Moting has shown he is still up to the job despite his age and has 13 goal contributions in 14 matches, 10 of which have been goals for the striker.

While he is undoubtedly on a hot streak for Bayern, Choupo-Moting is guilty of arguably the worst miss in the history of professional football.

He somehow failed to score from being pretty much on the goal-line while playing for PSG against Strasbourg in Ligue 1 back in 2019. Not only that, his intervention appeared to stop the ball from crossing the line when it was already going in.

The miss, which you can watch below, was posted to Twitter by BT Sport, alongside the caption: "The worst miss of ALL-TIME?"

If United were to sign Choupo-Moting, he would be Ten Hag's fourth player over 30 years of age to sign for the Red Devils since the Dutchman took charge.

If the Munich striker can produce performance levels as high as two of those four, Casemiro and Christian Eriksen, United fans will be delighted.

Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Munich could offer their striker a new deal which may ultimately ruin any of United's hopes of signing him:

"Choupo-Moting’s new contract will be discussed in the next months," Romano said.
