Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag will not offer the same World Cup luxury to his players as Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta.

United had 16 player travel to the World Cup, including England trio Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw and Marcus Rashford.

With just under two weeks to go until the return of club football, 11 of ten Hag’s squad are still in action in Qatar, competing in the knockout stages of the tournament.

None of the can expect time off once their international duty ends, however.

United are currently on a warm-weather training camp in Spain, where preparations are ramping up for the club’s Carabao Cup clash with Burnley on December 21.

While only 11 senior players are currently featuring in the training camp, the United manager expects that number to grow as the World Cup knock-out stages progress.

Man Utd players to return post-World Cup

Ten Hag insisted he will not be as lenient as his Premier League counterpart Arteta.

According to Express Sport, the Arsenal manager has already granted Ghana’s Thomas Partey and the USMNT’s Matt Turner time off to recover from the World Cup exploits.

Japan’s Takehiro Tomiyasu has also confirmed he plans to take time off before returning to Arsenal training. Meanwhile, Granit Xhaka has decided to join up with the rest of his teammates for a Dubai training camp.

However, ten Hag expects his United stars to return immediately after World Cup elimination. He explained to MUTV: "We made the players aware of the fact that after you are out of the World Cup, you have to return to the club and the league immediately goes on.

"You have to be ready for that [be ready for the league], but I think our players are used to it. Our players are winners, and they are battling now for the World Cup, and in the moment they are out - hopefully one is the winner - they have to deal with that."
