Manchester United have compiled a shortlist of six players to replace Cristiano Ronaldo this summer, according to a new report - with one of the players described as being 'as good as Neymar'.

Ronaldo left Old Trafford in December during the World Cup via mutual agreement, weeks after a controversial interview with Piers Morgan had been aired.

United boss Erik ten Hag opted not to sign a striker on a permanent deal in January, instead bringing in Wout Weghorst on loan from Championship side Burnley.

And whilst the tall Dutchman has only netted twice in 19 appearances since joining the club, his hold-up play and strength have brought an extra element to United's forward play.

However, reports claim that the club will not be pursuing a transfer for Weghorst this summer, and will instead look at other targets.

Tottenham star Harry Kane has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford, with his contract at Spurs expiring next summer. And, according to a new report, United have added another five players to their list of striker targets for the summer.

Man Utd 'create six-player shortlist' to replace Ronaldo

According to the Manchester Evening News, Kane remains the top target for United this summer as they look to recruit a world-class forward.

However, it is claimed that the club are eyeing a number of alternatives should a deal for England's all-time leading goalscorer not be possible.

Napoli star Victor Osimhen is one of those players, with the Nigeria international having smashed in 21 goals in 23 league appearances to help his side close in on winning the Scudetto.

However, Italian outlet Il Mattino reported last month that Napoli will only entertain offers upward of £150 million for their key striker, which could scupper hopes of a deal.

Other names on United's shortlist are said to include Frankfurt's Randal Kolo Muani, who impressed in last year's World Cup final, and Benfica's Goncalo Ramos, who replaced Ronaldo in Portugal's World Cup XI and netted a hat-trick against Switzerland.

Furthermore, it is claimed that Atalanta starlet Rasmus Hojlund, who has been compared to Erling Haaland, and Ajax attacker Mohammed Kudus are also options.

Kudus told The Guardian in November of his belief that Neymar is 'not better' than him - although the Ghana star dismissed suggestions of a feud between the two players as 'fake news'.

His form this season - 11 goals in 26 league games - certainly proves the 23-year-old is a huge talent.

United will be desperate to land at least one of these targets - meaning we could see a new number seven at Old Trafford next season.
