Erik ten Hag given green light to make major transfer - it could change United's season

Man Utd boss Erik ten Hag has been given the green light to buy a new right back if he’s able to offload the struggling Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

Erik ten Hag has been given the green light to buy a new right back, but only if he’s able to offload the struggling Aaron Wan-Bissaka, according to reports.

Man Utd will be hoping to return to winning ways this evening when they face Aston Villa in the third round of the Carabao Cup at Old Trafford.

Ten Hag’s side will be determined to inflict revenge on the Villans, who subjected the Red Devils to a 3-1 defeat on Sunday and ended the club’s nine-game unbeaten run.

A player who may feature this evening is Wan-Bissaka, and if the Man Utd hierarchy gets its way, it could be the full-back’s last outing for the club.

Green light

According to the Telegraph, Ten Hag has been given the green light to complete a January swoop for a new right back, but only if they can offload Wan-Bissaka.

The right-back was signed from Crystal Palace for £50 million in the summer of 2019 and has since played over 100 games for Man Utd. However, he was dropped midway through the last term in favour of Diogo Dalot.

Dalot has impressed on the right flank, while Wan-Bissaka has only played four minutes of first-team football this season, due to a lack of form and a series of injuries.

As a result, Ten-Hag will allegedly be able to seal a deal for a backup, provided Wan-Bissaka is sold.

Man Utd are unlikely to recuperate the £50 million they spent for Wan-Bissaka, and a loan deal may be the more likely option. Thus far the Premier League clubs said to be interested are Palace and West Ham.

The Sun claim that Wan-Bissaka will be able to rejoin Palace in January if the south Londoners are prepared to take on the bulk of his £80,000-a-week salary.

According to The Sun, Norwich’s Max Aarons and Bayer Leverkusen's Jeremie Frimpong are two players Ten Hag is eyeing at right back.
