Man Utd set to hijack Arsenal move as they join chase for international star

Manchester United have joined the race to sign Juventus star Dusan Vlahovic and are considering a bid for the striker, according to reports in Italy.

Vlahovic joined Juventus in the last January transfer window, moving from fellow Serie A side Fiorentina for a fee of £66.6 million.

The Serbian admitted after his transfer that joining the Italian giants was an 'easy' decision - before later stating in an interview with The Telegraph in July that he was unaware of any concrete interest from Arsenal, who were chasing his signature.

The Gunners were on the search for a striker to replace Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who was eventually released on a free transfer on deadline day in the January window.

But Arsenal had to look elsewhere, and went into the remainder of the season without a new centre forward.

Eddie Nketiah stepped up, scoring five goals in the final seven Premier League games and earning a new contract in the process.

Arsenal eventually did sign a striker in the summer, bringing in Gabriel Jesus from Manchester City.

As for Vlahovic, he started his time at Juve in fine form, but was criticised by the Italian press towards the end of the season.

He has six goals in 10 Serie A starts this season, but missed his club's most recent five competitive games through injury.

There have been rumours that he could be set to leave Italy, with Arsenal reportedly contacting the player's agent as they seek to reignite a move for the player. But United now appear to have entered the race.

Vlahovic to Man Utd?

According to Italian outlet Correire dello Sport, there is a 'queue' of clubs that want to sign Vlahovic, with Arsenal near the front of that queue.

But United are also involved, alongside PSG and Bayern Munich. Chelsea are also credited with an interest, but Spanish outlet Sport claim they are planning a bid for Borussia Dortmund starlet Youssoufa Moukoko.

Journalist Nicola Balice says that United will make a 'serious' attempt to sign Vlahovic in January, as Erik ten Hag looks to acquire a striker following the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo.

That news will dismay Arsenal fans, who were critical of the Serbian following his decision to join Juventus.

And with Gabriel Jesus currently recovering from knee surgery, they may now have to look elsewhere for a replacement - providing the striker does accept United's offer.
