Manchester United fans have asked their club to re-sign defender Daley Blind in January following the termination of his Ajax contract.

Blind, who has recently returned to club football following the World Cup with Netherlands, has come to a mutual agreement to end his Ajax deal on December 31, instead of the original June 2023 expiry date.

He will, therefore, be free to find another club in January.

The decision ends his second spell at the club, with Blind having come through the Ajax youth system before moving to United at the age of 24 in 2014.

Blind was originally signed by Louis van Gaal, and represented United on 60 occasions under the Dutchman in the Premier League.

A valuable utility player, he featured regularly in defensive midfield in his first season, before dropping into centre-back and left-back roles in his second campaign.

Blind was also a prominent member of the side under Jose Mourinho, and played 39 games in all competitions during the 2016/17 season, when he displaced Luke Shaw as first-choice full-back. He was in United's starting XI during the Europa League final win over Ajax.

After Blind's departure in 2018, Mourinho told United's official website: "I have to say, that in my 18 years of management, Daley is one of the most professional players, both on and off the pitch, that I have had the pleasure of working with."

Since returning to Amsterdam, he has made over 175 appearances in all competitions and lifted six trophies, with a number of Red Devils fans believing that they should not have sold the defender.

Now, upon news of his Ajax deal expiring in a matter of days, those fans want him back at Old Trafford.

Man Utd fans want Blind back at the club

Taking to Twitter following the news, one United fan wrote: "Come to United. Join with our great team and the best manager in the world."

Another suggested: "He'd be a great Lisandro Martinez backup @ManUtd."

Whilst a third fan wrote: "Won't be surprised if Blind returns to United and works with Ten Hag again."

Meanwhile, another supporter said: "One of the biggest mistakes United made was letting him go imo."

That was echoed by another fan: "He was a good player for United, but we let him go too early. A player who would not kick any fuss for staying on the bench. He may not be one of the most gifted players, but he's learnt the trade and good at it. He's done well for himself after United."

One other poster, meanwhile, aimed a dig at the club's lack of depth in forward areas: "Man United will buy him and play him up front."

Despite the hopes of some fans, Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Belgian giants Royal Antwerp want to sign Blind on a free transfer.
