Man Utd suffer deadline day transfer blow for midfield target as PL rival stance revealed

Man Utd suffer deadline day transfer blow for midfield target as PL rival stance revealed

Manchester United are unlikely to sign Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher on loan on deadline day, according to a new report.

Manchester United are unlikely to sign Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher on loan on deadline day, according to a new report.

The possibility of a new signing coming through the doors at Old Trafford emerged earlier this week, after Erik ten Hag confirmed midfielder Christian Eriksen had suffered an ankle injury in the FA Cup fourth round win over Reading on Saturday.

It was revealed on Tuesday morning that the Dane is expected to be out until late April, which may cause United to make a move on deadline day.

One option could be Chelsea's Gallagher, who has struggled for regular game time since the World Cup and has attracted interest from Everton and Crystal Palace, although official interest from Ten Hag's side has not been registered at this stage.

But a move to Old Trafford will reportedly not happen.

Conor Gallagher to Man Utd latest

The Daily Mail's Craig Hope has reported that Chelsea may be willing to loan Gallagher out on deadline day - but certainly not to a Premier League rival.

That is said to include Newcastle and the Red Devils, with the Blues still hoping to return to the Champions League qualification fight with a series of good results.

Hope tweeted: "We're told Conor Gallagher won't be allowed to join rivals such as Newcastle and Manchester United on loan.

"A loan is still possible, and it could be that Crystal Palace come back into the reckoning, if the midfielder is told he can leave Chelsea."

Everton, meanwhile, launched a £40 million bid, plus £5 million in add-ons, for Gallagher yesterday, with new Toffees boss Sean Dyche looking to bolster his squad on the final day of the window.

Palace could also return with a loan move for the midfielder, who starred at Selhurst Park on loan in the 2021/22 season.
