A Manchester United fan has come up with an outrageous theory as to why they will win the Premier League should Wout Weghorst sign for them.

Erik ten Hag is looking to secure a striker during the January transfer window following the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo.

And it appears he's found his man in the shape of Weghorst, who's on loan at Besiktas from Burnley.

The towering Dutchman seemed to wave goodbye to fans following his goal in their 2-1 win over Kasimpasa on Saturday.

Man United fans look to be on board with the transfer of the 30-year-old after a Twitter user shared a theory regarding a couple of the club's past Premier League triumphs.

@ManUtdGarnacho shared a post, revealing that Man United won the league title in the 2002/2003 and 2012/13 seasons, with a striker from the Netherlands in their squad.

With Weghorst closing in on a shock move to Old Trafford, he could continue the trend of Man United winning the league 10 years apart, with a Dutchman in their ranks.

The tweet reads: "2002/03: Ruud Van Nistelrooy won the Premier League with Man United.

"2012/13: Robin Van Persie won the Premier League with Man United.

"2022/23: Wout Weghorst wins the Premier League with Man United?"

Needless to say, the post got Man United fans optimistic as they talked up their title aspirations.

One tweeted: "People don't get it, we are 9 points that's only 3 games, we still in a title race for me."

A second wrote: "It's still a long way, but certainly not impossible."

A third added: "Second half of the season, we’re doing a title charge."

A fourth joked: "His name lacks a van, maybe even should opt for some Dutch striker with van in his name."

Another commented: "I’m convinced. Bring him here."

Man United's title-winning season in 2013 is their last league triumph, with Van Persie finishing as top scorer with an impressive 26 goals.

And Van Nistelrooy won the Golden Boot in 2003, bagging 25 goals.

Will Weghorst inspire Man United to league glory? Watch this space.
