Manchester United fans have been left confused after the club released their Europa League squad.

The Red Devils will resume their Europa League campaign later this month when they meet Barcelona in a blockbuster two-legged showdown.

Man United travel to Spain on February 16 for the first-leg, while the second-leg at Old Trafford is scheduled to take place on February 23.

And Erik ten Hag has named the players he will use for their games against the La Liga giants and beyond, should they advance to the next round of the competition.

The January signings of Jack Butland, Wout Weghorst and Marcel Sabitzer have all been added to Man United's Europa League squad.

Cristiano Ronaldo, who joined Al Nassr, Martin Dubravka, who returned to Newcastle United, and Axel Tuanzebe, who signed for Stoke City on loan, have all been cut from the squad.

And to the surprise of some Man United fans, Ten Hag has included Donny van de Beek, who is ruled out for the rest of the season after picking up a knee injury last month.

The Dutch midfielder's selection in Man United's Europa League squad got supporters online talking.

One Twitter user wrote: "Why is Van De Beek included while he is out injured for this season? Could have given a other player a place in there."

A second tweeted: "What’s van de Beek doing there? Thought he’s out of the season?"

A third added: "Why is Van de Beek in when he’s out for the season?"

A fourth commented: "How is VDB on the list."

Another claimed: "It's so he can get his medal IF we win the trophy."

Man United's Europa League squad:

Goalkeepers: David De Gea, Jack Butland, Tom Heaton.

Defenders: Diogo Dalot, Victor Lindelof, Harry Maguire, Tyrell Malacia, Lisandro Martinez, Luke Shaw, Raphael Varane, Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

Midfielders: Casemiro, Christian Eriksen, Bruno Fernandes, Fred, Scott McTominay, Marcel Sabitzer, Donny van de Beek.

Forwards: Antony, Alejandro Garnacho, Anthony Martial, Facundo Pellistri, Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Wout Weghorst.

Van de Beek isn't the only injured player included in Ten Hag's squad as he's also picked Christian Eriksen, who suffered an injury against Reading in the FA Cup.

He'll be out of action until late April or early May, with Man United hopeful of calling upon his services should they progress in the competition.
