Manchester United Told They'll Finish Worse If They Sign Christian Eriksen

Christian Eriksen is wanted by Manchester United but he would apparently make them finish the season even worse than their sixth place.

Manchester United have been warned that signing Christian Eriksen would make them finish the season worse than the last campaign's sixth place.

United were little short of pitiful in the second half of the Premier League, as their attempts to finish in the top four fell apart in the final few months.

The 4-0 loss to Brighton in their penultimate game rather proved how little effort that was left and how short of quality they were to battle against it.

Fans will be hoping that things improve next season, it rarely seemed like they could get much worse, with Erik ten Hag given the job to return them to the top four, and battling for titles again.

The Dutchman wants to add quality to his squad, and Eriksen is amongst those who could be brought in, after the midfielder's brilliant return to action with Brentford, since the beginning of the year.

However, one pundit has warned that the Denmark star will only make them worse, although anyone who's saw them play will be asking Danny Murphy how that's even possible.

"If you look at the Manchester United option, I don’t see that,” Murphy told talkSPORT.

"If Ten Hag thinks he’s going to play Eriksen and Fernandes in the same team in the midfield with only one holding player, they’ll end up finishing worse off than they did this season.

"Unless he’s going to bring him in as back-up to Fernandes to play as a number 10, or is he going to play him as a central midfielder?

"If you’re talking about bringing De Jong and Eriksen in, where’s the legs, where’s the tenacity, where’s the tough tackling and physical presence? There isn’t one!

"It’s a strange one for United why they’d want Eriksen, I don’t get that. They’ve got enough attacking players and creative players.

"United think getting someone who has been at Brentford and was one of Tottenham’s main players in the past, in an unsuccessful team that won nothing, they think bringing Eriksen in is going to make them more competitive?

“If you’re Eriksen and you get the chance at this stage of your career to play for Manchester United, look, you do it.

"But what should be the most attractive option for Eriksen this summer? It depends where he’s going to play the most."

Ten Hag certainly does need to add midfielders to his squad, with Paul Pogba, Nemanja Matic and Jesse Lingard having left the club this summer.

Most fans would have already argued that they needed strengthening in that position, although Murphy certainly has a point about them needing another defensive midfielder.

Scott McTominay and Fred have often provided the double pivot in front of the team's shaky defence, and they have come in for plenty of criticism.
