A young Manchester United fan was crying tears of joy after meeting defender Lisandro Martinez.

Since joining United from Dutch side Ajax in the summer for a fee in the region of £56 million, Martinez has quickly become a fans favourite.

The Argentine’s no-nonsense style of play and pure passion have won the hearts of many within the Old Trafford crowd.

Martinez was an unused substitute during United’s comfortable 3-1 win over Reading in the FA Cup on Saturday but had time to delight young fans after the match. You can watch the footage below.

In the video, two young supporters were hoping to get their shirts signed by a player and Martinez stopped to do just that.

The defender then posed for a picture from inside his car as the young kids had the widest of smiles across their faces.

After their encounter with Martinez, one of the young fans was visibly emotional and was crying tears of joy on the back of meeting one of their heroes.

It was a truly wholesome moment that reminded everyone what football is all about.

Despite a good performance on Saturday, United boss Erik ten Hag has urged the club to go for it in terms of transfers ahead of deadline day.

The Dutchman said: “In the coming days, should we have an opportunity, I would go for it but it's not only up to me. I think that always has to be the approach at this club.

“Every day you have to get better so if there are opportunities to get better then you have to strike, that's my approach. I'm looking, doing research, I have an idea and have profiles to strengthen the squad.”

United are next in action on Wednesday night as they take on Nottingham Forest in the second leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final.
