Manchester United have confirmed that star striker Mason Greenwood won’t train with the first team or play any matches ‘until further notice’ amid social media allegations.

The Red Devils are in FA Cup action on 4th February when they host Middlesbrough at Old Trafford, but Greenwood will play no part in the fourth-round clash.

The Daily Mirror’s David McDonnell reports United have confirmed in a statement that the 20-year-old striker won’t train or feature for the Premier League club until further notice.

“Mason Greenwood will not return to training or play matches until further notice, Man [United] announce,” he tweeted.

United on Sunday morning issued a statement and said they are “aware of images and allegations circulating on social media” relating to Greenwood.

“We are aware of images and allegations circulating on social media,” a spokesperson for United said.

“We will not make any further comment until the facts have been established. Manchester United does not condone violence of any kind.”

Photos, audio recordings and a video emerged on a woman’s Instagram alleging that Greenwood had assaulted her before the account was deleted.

However, the aforementioned images, video and audio recordings have since circulated on other social media platforms.

Greenwood has not responded to any of the allegations at the time of writing.

Greater Manchester Police have since issued a statement and confirmed enquiries are “ongoing to establish the full circumstances.”

A spokesperson for the force said in a statement: “Greater Manchester Police is aware of images and videos circulating on social media.

“Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.”

The England international has scored 35 times in 129 senior appearances for United after coming through the Red Devils youth academy.

Nike, who is one of Greenwood’s sponsors, said in a statement that it is “deeply concerned by the disturbing allegations” relating to the United forward.

“We are deeply concerned by the disturbing allegations and will continue to closely monitor the situation,” a spokesperson for the company told The Athletic.
