Greater Manchester Police Issue Statement After Social Media Allegations Against Mason Greenwood

A GMP spokesperson said that enquiries are "ongoing to establish the full circumstances" amid allegations connected to Mason Greenwood.

Greater Manchester Police have confirmed they are aware of the shock social media allegations made against Manchester United star Mason Greenwood.

The force revealed that it is “aware of images and videos circulating on social media” connected to England international Greenwood.

However, GMP said that enquiries are “ongoing to establish the full circumstances.”

A spokesperson for the force said in a statement: “Greater Manchester Police is aware of images and videos circulating on social media.

“Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.”

United issued a statement on Sunday to confirm that they were also “aware of images and allegations circulating on social media.”

The Red Devils firmly said that the club “does not condone violence of any kind” and would “not make any further comment until the facts have been established.”

In a statement, a United spokesperson said: “We are aware of images and allegations circulating on social media.

“We will not make any further comment until the facts have been established. Manchester United does not condone violence of any kind.”

Nike, who sponsor Greenwood, has said it is “deeply concerned by the disturbing allegations” relating to the 20-year-old United striker.

“We are deeply concerned by the disturbing allegations and will continue to closely monitor the situation,” a spokesperson told The Athletic.

On Sunday morning, audio recordings, a video and images were posted on a woman’s Instagram account alleging that Greenwood had assaulted her.

The woman’s Instagram account has since been deleted, but the photos, video and audio recordings have been shared on other social media platforms.

Greenwood has not responded to any of the allegations at the time of writing.

The England striker has scored 35 times in 129 senior appearances for United after coming through the Red Devils youth academy.

United will return to action on 4th February in their fourth-round FA Cup clash against Middlesbrough at Old Trafford.
