Man City Reach Agreement To Sign Leeds United's Kalvin Phillips In Deal Worth £45 Million

Manchester City have reached an agreement with Leeds United for Kalvin Phillips in a transfer worth £45 million.

David Ornstein of The Athletic reports that the Blues are closing in on the signing of Phillips following positive discussions between both clubs.

The Premier League champions are poised to pay £42 million, with potential bonuses valuing a further £3 million.

The England international was Man City's major midfield target this window.

He'll be the club's second major signing of the summer following the acquisition of Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund.

Phillips has been a one-club man since turning professional in 2014.

He's played for Leeds for the entirety of his career, having graduated from the youth academy.

The England international has played over 200 games for the Elland Road outfit and has starred for the club since their return to the top flight.

The 26-year-old is currently on holiday and scheduled to report back for pre-season training with Leeds on July 4.

But progress in negotiations could see the terms of a transfer finalised next week.

Phillips had attracted interest from Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain before the breakthrough between Man City and Leeds.

The star midfielder is is thought to be viewed as the replacement for Fernandinho, who called time on his Man City career at the end of the season.
