Manchester City fans are considering booing the Premier League anthem following their charge for financial rules.

The Blues have been charged by the Premier League with 'numerous breaches' of financial rules following a four-year investigation.

The English champions have allegedly breached financial rules over a period of nine seasons. They are alleged to have not provided accurate financial information.

Man City intend to 'robustly' defend themselves against the Premier League charges, which dates back from 2008 and goes on until 2018.

A statement from the club reads: "Manchester City FC is surprised by the issuing of these alleged breaches of the Premier League Rules, particularly given the extensive engagement and vast amount of detailed materials that the EPL has been provided with.

"The Club welcomes the review of this matter by an independent Commission, to impartially consider the comprehensive body of irrefutable evidence that exists in support of its position.

"As such we look forward to this matter being put to rest once and for all."

Ahead of resuming their league campaign on Sunday against Aston Villa, some supporters are considering booing the Premier League anthem before kick-off.

Man City fans boo the Champions League anthem before their European matches after UEFA handed them a two-year ban.

Of course, that ban was overturned, with fans thinking of jeering the pre-match festivities of their league fixtures.

One tweeted: "Do we boo the Premier league anthem before kick off on Sunday, like we do the Champions League every game??"

The same Twitter user added: "Be double standards on our part if boo UEFA but not the PL."

A second said: "So do US THE FANS boo the premier league theme now."

A third wrote: "Do we get to boo the Premier League anthem too now?"

A fourth commented: "What song do we boo for the premier league then."

Another exclaimed: "Get the boos going whilst the premier league anthem is on this Sunday. And get 'F**k the premier league' chants going."

Man City, who are behind league leaders Arsenal in the table, will look to bounce back from their defeat at Tottenham as they entertain Villa on Sunday.

Will the Etihad faithful boo the Premier League anthem prior to kick-off? Watch this space.
