"All the others..." - Klopp singles out just one Liverpool player for praise after Wolves humiliation

Only one Liverpool player was praised by Klopp after the defeat to Wolves.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp singled out just one of his players for praise after their damaging defeat to Wolves on Saturday.

Liverpool were thrashed 3-0 away at Molineux in the third meeting between the two teams in recent weeks.

The Reds were 2-0 down inside the opening 12 minutes, with an own goal from Joel Matip and Craig Dawson's fierce strike putting the home side in firm control of the match.

Liverpool performed better after the break but were dealt a hammer blow with around 20 minutes to go, when Ruben Neves scored a third for Wolves.

Defeat for Liverpool leaves them 10th in the Premier League table, 11 points off the Champions League places - a remarkable drop in form from a team that came close to winning the quadruple last season.

Klopp struggled to hide his disappointment in the post-match press conference after the Wolves defeat, even refusing to answer a question from The Athletic's James Pearce at one point.

Klopp singles out Bajcetic for praise

Klopp was critical of his players but made sure to praise young midfielder Stefan Bajcetic, who was named in Liverpool's starting line-up for the fourth game in a row.

"It's really difficult to summarise. The team is not full of confidence, you can see that – the first 12 minutes were obvious, but it was about defending, being compact, being active," said Klopp.

"Do you need a lot of confidence for that? I am not so sure. Put your body between the ball and the opponent, block the ball and these kind of things, avoid the cross.

"You saw Stefan Bajcetic full of confidence, he plays football for as long as we kept him on the pitch.

"All the others, started a bit different, but second half, with low-confidence levels, playing this kind of game, I think nobody would have been surprised if we scored here, that we could have scored once and twice and then let's have a look at the game.

"I know it is hypothetical, 100 per cent, but that was possible. We caused the problems ourselves, how can that happen? I cannot always cover things, it was obvious – we do it in public, that's why everyone can see it."

Liverpool have no game next week but will face a difficult test when they eventually return to action against a rejuvenated Everton in the Merseyside derby at Anfield on February 13.
