'Personally' - Fabrizio Romano Names Player Liverpool Should Sign, Chelsea Also Interested

Liverpool should sign Matheus Nunes from Sporting Lisbon, Fabrizio Romano claims. Chelsea are also interested.

Respected journalist Fabrizio Romano has named the player he believes Liverpool should sign.

Romano claimed that the Reds should be on the lookout for a new midfielder, and Sporting Lisbon's Matheus Nunes would be a good fit.

In his latest column for Caught Offside, he wrote: “It’s gone quiet at Liverpool, as many expected, but if it were up to me I think I’d still be in the market for at least one more signing,”

“Personally, I’d sign a new central midfielder. Jurgen Klopp wanted Aurelien Tchouameni when he was at Monaco and held some talks over the deal, but the player preferred Real Madrid."

“I think another midfielder could help Liverpool, a player like Matheus Nunes, a talented 23-year-old from Sporting Lisbon, would be a smart idea."

"But Liverpool always think long-term and I’m sure they will invest in a midfielder in 2023.”

Nunes has enjoyed a strong few seasons for Sporting, making 74 appearances and scoring 6 goals.

It has also been reported that the midfielder thinks a switch to England is likely this summer.

He believes Liverpool, Chelsea or Wolves could also move for him ‘at any minute.'

Nunes isn't the only midfielder linked to Liverpool in recent months. Since the start of the transfer window there have been endless stories about the Merseyside club's pursuit of Dortmund star Jude Bellingham.

Bellingham is one of football’s brightest prospects. At just 19, he has already made 102 professional club appearances, and 15 at an international level.

However, he is unlikely to be made available for transfer until next summer. Following the transfer of Erling Haaland to Man City, Dortmund understandably aren't keen to lose two of their top talents in the same window.
