Fabrizio Romano gave an update on Liverpool’s transfer strategy after a frustrating Deadline Day.

The Reds have endured a difficult January. On the pitch Jurgen Klopp’s side have been in a dismal run of form, producing just one win from six games.

In turn, they have lost further ground in the race for the top-four and crashed out of the FA Cup.

Meanwhile, off the pitch the club have experienced a frustrating transfer window where they have failed to secure any midfield reinforcements.

While they did manage to complete the £45million signing of Cody Gakpo from PSV Eindhoven, Klopp will have to hope Jordan Henderson, Thiago Alcantara, Fabinho and the rest of the midfield can rediscovering their bite in the remainder of the season.

Romano on Liverpool’s transfer strategy

Despite Liverpool’s lack of movement in the January market, Fabrizio Romano told Youtube channel Born and Red on Monday evening that the club were in pole position to land Jude Bellingham in the summer.

The Italian journalist said: “Jurgen Klopp is obsessed with the Jude Bellingham transfer and is making calls every single day.

“Liverpool are really really pushing for Jude Bellingham and are having contact on the players' side and with Borussia Dortmund.

“Liverpool want Jude Bellingham and [Wolves’] Matheus Nunes."

Bellingham’s performances for Borussia Dortmund and England have seen him become the most sought after midfielder in world footballer.

The 19-year-old is said to be a target for Manchester City, Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea, while on the continent he has attracted interest from Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid.

Indeed, Nunes is also said to be Liverpool target for the summer. The Reds reportedly explored the possibility of signing the 24-year-old in the January window however the move was not feasibly possible.

The player had featured in competitive matches for two clubs this season - Sporting and Wolves - so as per FIFA regulations, he would not be able to play for a third club this term.
