"I am very happy..." - Former Liverpool target says he's pleased he moved to another club

He now plays his club football with Torino.

Former Liverpool target Perr Schuurs insists he's "very happy" with how his career has progressed even though a move to Anfield failed to materialise.

The 23-year-old had been linked with Liverpool in 2020, with his agent claiming that Jurgen Klopp's side were interested in signing the centre-back from Ajax.

Schuurs would instead leave the Dutch club for Torino in August and has gone on to make 11 appearances for the Italian club this season, scoring once.

Speaking to to Dutch outlet Voetbal International, Schuurs insists he has no regrets his decision to move to Italy.

"I now dare to say that I am very happy with my choice. And I already feel very at home here," he said.

"I had four fantastic years at Ajax. But I am 23-years-old and want to play every week. In the end it was very simple; if Jurrien [Timber] stayed, it would be better to leave.

"I did have good conversations with [Ajax head coach] Alfred [Schreuder]. He really wanted to keep up with me and promised a lot of minutes. 'I definitely need you', he said.

"Top clubs were also interested, I will not deny that. But, as I said, I wanted to play as much as possible. Otherwise, I would have stayed with Ajax. Originally the idea was to go from the Netherlands to Germany one day. The Bundesliga is great and I speak the language.

"But the story of Torino was the deciding factor. They see a chance for me to become an even more complete defender and, one day, take the step to the absolute top."

Agent claims Tottenham, PSG were also interested

Schuurs' agent George Gardi claims several top European sides were interested in signing the defender before his move to Torino.

Speaking to Tuttosport, Gardi said: "The first time the director expressed Torino's willingness to sign Perr, it seems to me that we were facing something unthinkable to be realised. Clubs of the calibre of Tottenham, Liverpool or PSG had moved to sign the player.

"In addition to Liverpool, Tottenham and PSG, three Italian clubs also wanted Schuurs. However, having taken a path we went on to follow it without delay.

"Thanks to Torino I am sure that Schuurs can become a pillar of the Dutch national team."
