Liverpool target Dominik Szoboszlai 'has Steven Gerrard quote tattooed on his arm'

Liverpool target Dominik Szoboszlai 'has Steven Gerrard quote tattooed on his arm'

The claim has raised eyebrows.

Liverpool transfer target Dominik Szoboszlai has a quote tattooed on his arm that is reportedly attributed to Steven Gerrard - but the claim has raised eyebrows.

According to The Athletic's David Ornstein, Liverpool met representatives of the Hungary international this week to discuss a potential move.

It is expected to be 'very difficult' to complete a deal for the RB Leipzig star, however, due to his €70 million release clause - which would be a significant financial outlay for Liverpool this summer.

If Liverpool can get a deal done, however, it will need to be finalised quickly.

According to Sky Germany's Phillip Hinze, Szoboszlai's release clause expires on Friday, June 30. After that, any transfer fee can be negotiated between the two clubs.

But as an attacking midfielder, the 22-year-old is said to fit the profile that the Reds want this summer as Jurgen Klopp looks to bolster his options in the centre of the pitch.

The links to Szoboszlai follow on from previous claims by a local outlet that the Hungarian has an unusual connection to Liverpool legend Gerrard.

Szoboszlai 'has Gerrard quote tattooed'

According to Hungarian outlet Index, the midfielder's tattoo reads, in Hungarian: "Talent is a divine blessing, but without incredible will and humility, it is worth nothing."

The same outlet attributes the quote to Gerrard, who used his talent to great effect across over 700 appearances for the Reds in all competitions.

As one of Liverpool's greatest ever players, it is impossible to argue that Gerrard didn't live up to the above quote himself - although whether he uttered those exact words is another matter.

The former midfielder isn't exactly known for speaking in that particular style, despite the words essentially matching his own playing style, making the idea that the quote originated from him unlikely.

Szoboszlai, meanwhile, has publicly praised Liverpool boss Klopp in the past for his management style.

He explained (quotes via Daily Mirror): "I really like Klopp. The way he can inspire his players is unbelievable.

"Even when they have nothing, they can stand up and his players can achieve anything. For me, he is the best manager in the world."
