Liverpool player handed huge salary increase after '£9.4m decision'

He must be pinching himself.

Liverpool midfielder Stefan Bajcetic has received a huge salary increase after signing a new deal at Anfield, a report has claimed.

Bajcetic, 18, broke into Liverpool's first-team earlier this season and was recently rewarded with a new "long-term" contract.

He is believed to have committed his future to the Reds until the summer of 2027 and Football Insider has now revealed the details of Bajcetic's new deal.

It is claimed that the Spanish midfielder is now earning at least £40,000 per week at Liverpool, despite only making 12 senior appearances for the club.

The report adds that Bajcetic could eventually earn £9.4m over the course of his contract.

Salary Sport has estimated that Bajcetic was previously earning a weekly salary of £2,600 before his new deal.

If both figures are correct, Bajcetic's salary has been multiplied by more than 15 times.

Bajcetic's growing importance to Liverpool

Bajcetic has emerged as an important figure for Liverpool in recent months and is being viewed as a potential long-term solution to the club's midfield problems.

The young Spaniard has kept Brazilian veteran Fabinho out of the side in recent weeks and could start when Liverpool face Everton in the Merseyside derby on Monday night.

Bajcetic was the only Liverpool player singled out for praise by Jurgen Klopp after the disappointing 3-0 defeat to Wolves earlier this month.

"You saw Stefan Bajcetic full of confidence, he plays football for as long as we kept him on the pitch," said Klopp.

Bajcetic is delighted to be playing an important role for Liverpool, after joining the club from Spanish side Celta Vigo in 2020.

"It's crazy," said Bajcetic, after his latest contract was announced.

"A year ago I was playing U18s football and now I've started some games, made my debut and even scored a goal – that was something I never expected to happen this year.

"It's amazing to see how fast it went. But I keep working hard and hopefully [there are] more things to come."
