World Cup star's "beautiful" Liverpool comment sparks speculation over potential January transfer

World Cup star's "beautiful" Liverpool comment sparks speculation over potential January transfer

He's attracted interest after impressing at the World Cup.

Morocco midfielder Sofyan Amrabat has hinted he would be willing to join Liverpool if the Premier League club made an approach for him.

Amrabat, 26, as been a stand-out player for Morocco at the World Cup in Qatar, playing a key role in helping his nation reach the semi-finals, where they will face defending champions France.

Morocco became the first African side to make the last four at a World Cup after beating Portugal 1-0 on Saturday, with Amrabat playing the full match.

His impressive performances in Qatar have led to speculation that a Premier League club might make an approach for the Fiorentina midfielder when the January transfer window opens.

One of the clubs being linked with Amrabat is Liverpool, who are in desperate need of midfield reinforcements.

Amrabat: Liverpool is a beautiful club

Liverpool fan account Born 'N' Red posted a picture to Twitter on Sunday of one of their group alongside Amrabat in Qatar.

"You want to know what he said when asked 'Are you joining Liverpool?','' posted Born 'N' Red.

"He replied: 'Liverpool is a beautiful club.' [And smiled] Make of that what you will!"

While Liverpool are indeed in the market for a midfielder, Jurgen Klopp's side are thought to be focussing their efforts on signing England international Jude Bellingham.

A number of clubs, including Real Madrid, are also interested in Bellingham but Liverpool are believed to be at the front of the queue to sign the Borussia Dortmund star.

Even if they were keen to sign Amrabat, Liverpool might find it difficult - with Fiorentina reluctant to sell, according to the Liverpool Echo.

It is claimed that the Italian club are not willing to sell the midfielder midway through the season.

It remains to be seen whether any English clubs will test Fiorentina's resolve with a bid in January.
