Spanish international Thiago Alcantara has heaped praise on Jordan Henderson this week in a Nike and Liverpool documentary based around the Liverpool captain.

The 36-minute film features journalists, analysts, teammates and managers talking about the Sunderland-born midfielder.

One of the teammates who shares their thoughts on Henderson is Thiago, who described him as ‘one of the best… midfield players I’ve ever played with in my life.’

The diminutive midfielder has played alongside Xavi, Iniesta and Kroos amongst others, so the praise will undoubtedly be extra special for the England international.

Thiago also went on to mention Henderson’s character and the work he does off the pitch, a common theme running through the documentary.

The Spaniard stated: ‘Jordan has great character that teaches us that nothing is guaranteed, that we have to fight for everything and have to give our best as possible.’

‘He’s a player that, from the moment you arrive, he helps you get settled, helps you feel at home.'

'And then on the pitch, he helps you stay alert and concentrated on the game.’

Henderson is also adored by the Anfield faithful, not just for the success he’s brought them on the pitch (Liverpool only lost twice between January 2019 and September 2021 when Henderson started in midfield), but his willingness to speak up about social issues off it too.

This is something that has long been associated with the fibre of Liverpool football club.

Jordan Henderson now has an official role as an ambassador for the NHS, and has repeatedly been praised for his commitment to the Premier League’s rainbow laces campaign and support of LGBTQ+ fans.

Much of his teammates' praise focuses on the discipline and rigour he brings to the team, a feature that Jurgen Klopp clearly adores him for, even if it often goes under the radar.

With Liverpool’s interest in Gavi and Tchouameni intensifying in recent months, it’s clear that the Reds will be looking to freshen up an ageing midfield unit next summer.

However, no one should ever doubt how important Henderson has been to this Klopp era at Liverpool.
