Wolves rejected the chance to buy new Liverpool signing Darwin Nunez a few years ago. According to reports, the midlands club passed on the Uruguayan forward in the summer of 2020 while he was still in the Spanish second division at Almeria.
After being lured from South America for a fee of £13 million, Darwin Núñez impressed in Spain, racking up 16 goals in 30 La Liga 2 games.
It was at this point that Wolverhampton Wanderers, searching for a new forward, sent scouts out to Spain to watch him, and apparently they returned with glowing reports and recommended him to their superiors.
However for reasons at the moment unclear, they opted not to begin serious talks with Almeria and that summer Núñez was lured to Portugal by Benfica, who stumped up £20 million for the player’s services.

This is all the more surprising as Núñez is represented by superstar agent Jorge Mendes, who has helped facilitate a lot of business with Wolves over the past few years.
Liverpool fans will be delighted that Wolves passed on him and are no doubt excited to see the Uruguayan play in Red.

The Reds were desperately in need of a new forward this summer as Sadio Mane is leaving for Bayern Munich and Mo Salah reportedly also wants out. Nunez therefore has big shoes to fill, but he might just do it!
