Liverpool Trying To Pin Down Four Key Players To New Contracts

Liverpool have wasted no time in bringing in new players this transfer window to bolster their squad. But now the Reds are set to switch their focus away from obtaining new signings for a while, and they will instead concentrate their attention on the current squad. They are hoping to get key players to sign new contracts.

According to The Mirror, the four players in planned contract talks are Diogo Jota, Naby Keita, Harvey Elliott and Joe Gomez.

The Portuguese forward Diogo Jota has performed well this season, stepping up and proving that he can perform on a world class level.

Therefore Liverpool will not want any chance of letting him go early, certainly as the forward is only 25 so he still has many more years left in him.

It is also key that The Reds manage to secure another contract with the 19 year old Harvey Elliott who looks to have a bright future ahead of him.

He broke into the squad last season, playing well as a left sided defender, helping bring creativity, energy and composure to the backline. But sadly he was not able to show his full potential, after suffering a bad ankle injury.

These talks shouldn’t prove too difficult for the club to manage as both Jota and Elliott still have three years left on their current deals.

The most pressing contract for the club to sort out is Naby Keita’s, the midfielder’s current deal is set to expire next year.

The Guinean has played 116 times for Liverpool and scored 11 times since he joined in 2018.

He has won every trophy possible during his time at Merseyside, and despite having an up and down few years, Klopp would be wise to keep him in the roster.

Alongside him, Joe Gomez’s contract runs out in two years time, but Liverpool are confident he will sign a new deal during pre-season.
