Manchester United legend Roy Keane blasted Liverpool's first-half performance after defensive woes saw Arsenal take an early 2-0 lead at Anfield.

In a match that has a lot riding on it, both sides went into the game confident they would be able to get a result despite the differences in form.

Arsenal have failed to pick up any points at Anfield since 2016 but controlled the majority of the first half taking a 2-0 lead with goals coming from Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus.

Mohamed Salah managed to pull one back for a rejuvenated Liverpool before half-time but the Reds' performance was criticized by former United player and Sky Sports pundit Keane.

What did he say?

Speaking in the studio at half-time, Roy Keane said: "It's really poor defending from Liverpool. Trent has been getting caught too square. There's been no intensity.

"For the second goal, Jesus is just standing in the middle of the box and Van Dijk is ball-watching.

"There's no pressure on the ball. Players are dropping off and it's been far too easy for Arsenal.

"I bet Martinelli can't believe his luck. You've got to do better than that. Liverpool have defended like a pub team.

"They were all over the place and they are a mess."

Jurgen Klopp's side have come under constant criticism this season and look increasingly unlikely to qualify for next season's Champions League.

Keane's comments are unsurprising with Liverpool failing to impress and in need of a major rebuild.

The atmosphere at Anfield has helped them in big games against Manchester United and now Arsenal, but it just papers over the cracks that remain.
