Darwin Nunez was on the scoresheet as Liverpool beat Newcastle United

Darwin Nunez’s face lit up with joy when he heard Liverpool fans chanting his name after his goal against Newcastle United.

Jurgen Klopp’s men arrived at St James’ Park on Saturday evening looking to build up extra momentum after their Merseyside derby victory over Everton.

Newcastle meanwhile were hoping to cement themselves in the top four ahead of their Carabao Cup final date against Manchester United next Sunday.

Despite starting the game well, Newcastle were stunned in the 10th minute after a wonderful Trent Alexander Arnold pass found Nunez, who chested the ball down better smashing it into the back of Nick Pope’s net.

After celebrating their side’s opening goal, the travelling Liverpool fans were heard chanting ‘Nunez! Nunez!’

As the chanting continued, Nunez was captured reacting with a huge smile across his face whilst he fist-pumped towards the away section. You can watch the wholesome moment below.

Cody Gakpo scored the Reds' second before Magpies keeper Nick Pope was sent off for hand ball. Liverpool held on for a much-needed 2-0 victory.

Since arriving from Benfica for a deal worth £85 million in the summer, Nunez’s every move has been scrutinised by rival fans.

After a tough start to life at Anfield, Nunez is now starting to fit into the way Klopp likes to play whilst Liverpool are looking like they are starting to kick into gear.

However, one worrying issue ahead of a crucial week is that Nunez was forced off with what looked like a shoulder injury during the clash against the Magpies.

Klopp said: “The bad news is that Darwin has something on his shoulder so we’ll have to see.

“He had to go off with that issue and we need further assessment. I don’t know (the extent) in this moment. In this moment it is painful. Hopefully it is just painful and nothing more.”
