Liverpool Enquire Over £59M Man United Target Who Lit Up Eredivisie - But There's One Problem

Liverpool Enquire Over £59M Man United Target Who Lit Up Eredivisie - But There's One Problem

Liverpool have sounded out Manchester United target Antony

Liverpool have sounded out Ajax winger Antony ahead of a potential move to Anfield for the Brazilian this summer.

The 22-year-old has also been heavily linked with a reunion with ex-boss Erik Ten Hag at Manchester United this summer.

Interest from the Red Devils appears to have cooled in recent weeks though, with the pursuit of Antony’s now former teammate, Lisandro Martinez, instead prioritised.

The Brazil international enjoyed a strong campaign in what might be his last with Ajax.

He contributed towards 19 goals across the Eredivisie and Champions League last season, cutting in from the right flank onto his left foot with great effect.

And according to Football Insider, Manchester United aren’t the only big Premier League club tracking him this summer.

They claim Liverpool could make a move for Brazilian if a reasonable price can be negotiated between the Merseyside club and Ajax.

The Football Insider report claims Ajax rate Antony at £59 million, a sum Liverpool would be unwilling to pay having already spent big on Darwin Nuñez this summer.

It’s also important to consider Antony wouldn’t walk into the Liverpool starting XI, with a certain Mo Salah currently having a very strong grip on the right-wing position at Anfield.

Antony would compete with Mo Salah on that right hand side, and at least for a little while, he’d have to accept a second fiddle role.

But the Ajax man’s age profile will be particularly attractive to Liverpool.

At 22, Antony is still an incredibly raw player, who would likely take some time to adjust to the demands to the Premier League after a move from the Eredivisie.

Liverpool are in a position where they can offer him time to adjust.

Thanks to Salah’s presence, he doesn’t have to play week in week out, decreasing the pressure on him.

Unfortunately for Antony, all signs point towards to the idea that Liverpool have concluded their incoming business for the summer.

But picking up a player of Antony’s profile would be wise. Mo Salah won’t be around forever.
