A number of Liverpool fans have chosen former player Xabi Alonso as their choice to replace under-fire boss Jurgen Klopp.

After nearly leading Liverpool to an unprecedented quadruple last season, Klopp’s men have fallen drastically from their former graces.

The Anfield club currently sit sixth in the Premier League and their trophy hopes have been dashed after their humiliating 6-2 aggregate defeat by Real Madrid in the Champions League round of 16.

As a result, Klopp’s future has been the talk of the town as questions have been raised about whether he can turn this around.

Ex-Liverpool man and fan favourite Alonso has been doing a brilliant job since taking over Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen.

When the Spaniard first took over, Leverkusen were 17th and were really struggling.

In the space of five months, Leverkusen are now eighth, just two points away from a spot in European football.

Alonso’s men are also in the quarter-finals of the Europa League, where they will take on Belgian side Union St.Gilloise.

The good work that Alonso has done in Germany has led to Liverpool fans praising him on social media, with some wanting him to replace Klopp.

One said: “If he carries on with his development in management, then I can see him in 3/4 years being lined up as a successor to Klopp.”

Another tweeted: “I would take him and give him the keys to rebuild this summer because Klopp will never do it.”

A third fan added: “If we're eventually to be managed by another ex-Red, I'd take it being Xabi over Stevie [Gerrard] in a heartbeat.”

Someone else wrote: “It’s an unpopular opinion, but I’d rather let Alonso rebuild the squad than Klopp.”

Whilst a fifth commented: “I’m not saying that Xabi Alonso will be Klopp’s successor. I’m just saying that this wouldn’t feel wrong.”

Another fan added: “Xabi Alonso is working miracles at Bayer Leverkusen. What a manager.”

Although Liverpool are going through a tough spell, it has been reported that Klopp’s position is safe due to the work he has done to bring glory back to Anfield.
