‘In my heart’ - Chelsea and Tottenham stunned as £65million World Cup star lists Liverpool as ‘dream club’

Chelsea and Tottenham target Josko Gvardiol admitted that Liverpool would be his “dream club” to sign for.

Chelsea and Tottenham target Josko Gvardiol admitted that Liverpool would be his “dream club” to sign for.

The RB Leipzig defender has long been tipped to join a Premier League side having starred in both the Bundesliga and the World Cup this term.

Indeed, the 20-year-old was one of the most impressive performers in Qatar, as Croatia reached finished third in the tournament.

Gvardiol, who is valued at £65million by Transfermarkt, has long been linked with a move to Chelsea.

However German publication Bild claim Spurs are also interested in the Croatia international, who is contracted at Leipzig until 2027.

Indeed either side will hope to secure a deal for the player before 2024, when a release clause of £112million reportedly becomes active. Such a fee would make him the most expensive defender in history.

However, Gvardiol has expressed an interest in a different Premier League club entirely.

Gvardiol’s dream club is Liverpool

According to RTLDanas, the centre-back labelled Liverpool as a team close to his heart.

When asked who his dream club would be the Chelsea and Spurs target said: "That would definitely be Liverpool.

“Since I was little, I watched a lot of Liverpool matches with my dad, and we covered every season in detail. It is a club that has remained in my heart."

In the same interview, Gvardiol opened up about the interest he has received from Chelsea.

He said: “[Chelsea] did not give up, but it was agreed that we would go for [a transfer in] the winter. Winter has come, so we need to see what and how to proceed, but it's okay, there's still plenty of time, we'll see.

Gvardiol added: “Since I was a child, I always gravitated towards the English league.

“We all know what kind of league it is. I don't know if I'm mature enough and ready for that league.

“We will see, when I feel that this is the moment, that I have crossed a certain level and reached the border in Germany, then I will look further.”
