Liverpool interested in Frenkie de Jong to sort midfield problems

After a summer where Man Utd have failed to sign their number one priority, Jurgen Klopp could now be plotting to steal him.

Manchester United fans look away now, because Liverpool could soon make a bid for their rivals number one summer transfer target Frenkie de Jong.

On Friday, Jurgen Klopp surprised football fans and pundits by admitting that he was wrong and everyone else was correct, about Liverpool's midfield issues.

Earlier in the summer, the German had revealed he was baffled by people saying his team needed to sign another midfielder, claiming it was the 'last thing that would cross his mind.'

However, last Monday's loss to United seems to have made that scenario not only cross his mind but be a significant part of his current thinking, with Klopp confirming the club would look to sign a midfielder before Thursday's deadline.

And, according to the Times, one of the players that Liverpool are looking at his De Jong, after a summer in which United have tried and failed to sign the 25-year-old.

Erik ten Hag has wanted to be reunited with his fellow Dutchman all summer, after the two worked together at Ajax, until 2019 when the midfielder moved to La Liga.

For a long time he looked like the only potential signing in midfield for United, outside of the move for Christian Eriksen who didn't cost anything.

However, United's poor start to the season forced the club to make further additions and they splashed out on Casemiro, a move De Jong seemed to be a fan of.

The former Ajax man has not wanted to leave the Nou Camp, especially with the Spanish giants owing him £17 million, and United's lack of Champions League football certainly hasn't helped.

He was one of three scorers for Barcelona in their midweek friendly against Manchester City, all of whom could leave before Thursday's deadline.

The report also pin points Jude Bellingham as a potential signing for the Anfield club, with their interest having been reported in the past as well.

They were expected to wait until next summer to make a move and Borussia Dortmund tend to only sell one of their stars every summer and, having sold Erling Haaland to Manchester City, they've already done that.

There isn't any other potential signings named and with just a few days to go until they have to wait till January, Liverpool don't have too much time to wait if they are going to sign someone.
