Liverpool fans booed off Newcastle United players for 'awful tactics'

Fabio Carvalho's last minute goal denied Newcastle a huge point at Anfield, as Jurgen Klopp's side grabbed all three points.

Liverpool fans were not happy with Newcastle United's tactics on Wednesday night, and booed Eddie Howe's team off the pitch, as you can see in the video below.

Liverpool were coming off their absolute battering of Bournemouth last weekend, when they came up Newcastle, looking ever improved since Howe took over last year.

Certainly Jurgen Klopp's side were tested more than they were against the Cherries, with Alexander Isak opening the scoring on his Premier League debut, in the first half.

The Swedish striker might have even had a second, even better goal, if he wasn't marginally offside, a decision that didn't exactly impress fans on social media.

In form Roberto Firmino, fresh off a hat-trick of assists and two goals against Bournemouth, scored the equaliser just after the hour mark.

Just as it looked like the two teams would share the points, the hosts scored deep into injury time, with Carvalho scoring from a corner in the 98th minute, after there'd originally been five minutes added on.

Whilst Newcastle fans were aggrieved at the amount of time added on, those of a Red persuasion were blaming the Magpies, Howe and the time wasting tactics they'd used which led to more time being added on.

"They quite rightly deserved to be booed off. Awful awful tactics. They got what they deserved. Nothing," one fan posted on Twitter.

"Been going to the match since 1978. I think that’s the first time I have ever Boo’d off a visiting side. They should be embarrassed and ashamed of themselves," another added.

Comparing it to other clubs another said, "Like Wimbledon of the 80s, Stoke City under Pulis and Everton from last year. Football from the dark ages."

"21 seconds without a player going down, should have tried that the rest of the game," said a fourth with the sanctimony of someone who's never seen Liverpool time waste.

And another fan felt Newcastle were unlucky, to only see another three minutes played, saying, " If the ref had actually added on all the time for Newcastle’s time wasting they’d still have 10 minutes to get an equaliser."

Up until right at the end it seemed that Howe had set up his team perfectly, and they'd be on for another huge point, having done the same to Manchester City.

Ironically, Newcastle's inability to kill time may have done for them, as they had a chance late in the game to run the ball into the corner towards the end.

Instead they attempted one final throw of the dice to score, the ball was crossed into the middle, and from a blocked shot Liverpool went up the other end, earned a corner and eventually scored.

The booing will only make the dropped point hurt even more for the visiting players.
