Another blow for Liverpool as star player set to miss Rangers game

Another blow for Liverpool as star player set to miss Rangers game

Liverpool defender Andrew Robertson is set to miss the Rangers game

Liverpool defender Andrew Robertson is set to miss out on the Red's Champions League game with Rangers, according to The Athletic.

The Scotland skipper originally picked up a problem earlier this month, and was replaced by Kostas Tsimikas in yesterday’s fixture against Brighton and Hove Albion.

Robertson hasn’t looked himself at the start of this season, with many calling for Tsimikas, or the ‘Greek Scouser’ as he is known on social media and by his teammates, to start ahead of him regardless of absence.

He was already preferred for Liverpool’s 0-0 draw in the Merseyside Derby against Everton.

Missing the Rangers game will likely be of huge disappointment to Robertson, who grew up a boyhood Celtic fan before being released by the club at the age of 15.

Celtic and Rangers are reputably known as one of the greatest rivalries in football, with the ‘Old Firm’ ranked as the best in 2020 ahead of Boca Juniors/River Plate, El Clasico, Der Revierderby and the North London derby amongst others.

Robertson hasn’t faced off against Rangers at all in his career thus far, as whilst he was coming to prominence at Dundee United, the club were demoted to the lower reaches of Scottish football.

He moved to Hull in 2014, then Liverpool three years later and is now thought of as one of the world’s premier left-backs.

He even spoke recently about his love for the Bhoys, saying that if he doesn’t finish his career at Liverpool, he would love to play in green and white hoops to finish his career.

“Every time I watch Celtic, I consider it. When you watch them and see a packed Celtic Park, as a fan you always have that dream,” he told the Currie Club podcast.

“Ideally, I want to finish my career here at Liverpool. If I can stay at the top of my game, at the top of the tree my whole career, that’s the route I want to go down.”

He is contracted to Liverpool until 2026, so it likely won’t be in consideration until then.
