Arsenal and Edu's 'constant calls' could be wasted as Lionel Messi opts for Saudi Arabia move

Arsenal and Edu's 'constant calls' could be wasted as Lionel Messi opts for Saudi Arabia move

The Gunners' transfer plans have been cast into doubt.

Lionel Messi's potential move to Saudi Arabia has cast doubt over Arsenal's summer transfer plans.

Arsenal are in the market for attacking recruits at the end of the season, as Mikel Arteta prepares for a busy Champions League schedule.

The Gunners boss is expected to pay particular attention to his right-hand flank to help ease the pressure on Bukayo Saka - and has allegedly identified a number of targets.

However, sensational reports linking Messi with a move to Saudia Arabia could have a major impact on Arsenal.

The seven-time ballon D'or winner has been heavily rumoured with a historic return to Barcelona, after confirming he would leave Paris Saint-Germain at the end of the campaign.

While his arrival could spell the end of the road for the likes of Raphinha, Ferran Torres and Ansu Fati, who have all been linked with moves away from Camp Nou.

However, with Messi tipped to join Cristiano Ronaldo in the Middle East, several Barcelona stars could now be convinced to stay at the club.

Arsenal dealt Raphinha blow

Raphinha is 'considering leaving' Barcelona this summer due to a lack of game time and what the arrival of Messi could mean for his place in the team, according to Spanish news outlet Sport.

The report also adds that Arsenal, Chelsea and Newcastle United are all interested in the 26-year-old, with Gunners Sporting Director Edu making 'constant calls' to the player's representatives.

While former Manchester City player Torres and Fati have also been rumoured with a move to the Emirates. However, it seems Edu's efforts could be in vain.

Arsenal originally attempted to sign Raphinha from Leeds last summer, but the Brazilian opted to join Barca instead. And Messi's latest transfer decision could mean Arsenal will miss out again.
