Football stars Lionel Messi, Ronaldinho and Paul Pogba have linked up for the latest Pepsi advert ahead of the World Cup next month.

Although Coca-Cola are the primary sponsor for the tournament in Qatar, Pepsi have done their best to steal the limelight by assembling three of football’s biggest-ever stars.

Argentina legend Messi is joined by Brazilian legend Ronaldinho and Pogba, who was part of the France team that won the last edition of the World Cup.

The new advert, titled ‘Nutmeg Royale’ landed on Thursday and it is already an instant hit.

It started with Messi being nutmegged before he joined forces with Ronaldinho and Pogba to take on the locals in a nutmegging battle.

Football influencers such as Receba Ferreira and Kaljit Atwal also appeared in the video alongside transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano who was tasked with spreading the news about the battle between the football stars and the locals on the streets.

Fatboy Slim’s 1998 hit ‘The Rockafeller Skank’ can be heard in the background for the whole duration of the advert.

It was reported that the advert was filmed in Marrakech, Morocco, giving an Arabian city vibe ahead of the World Cup in Qatar which kicks off on November 20.

The trio of Messi, Ronaldinho and Pogba showed their skills as they looked to dazzle their opponents with their outrageously quick feet.

Pogba even paid homage to his former manager Jose Mourinho after appearing to recreate Mourinho’s famous peeking through the curtains meme that went viral on social media. Pogba and Mourinho went through a turbulent relationship during their time together at Manchester United.

The contest ended 13-13, with Messi running off with the ball signalling the end of the advert.

This wasn’t the first time Pepsi have produced a brilliant football-related advert as they are famed for using football’s biggest names to star in their commercials. Ahead of the 2006 World Cup, the likes of David Beckham, Ronaldinho, Roberto Carlos and Francesco Totti all starred in the soft drinks company’s advert named ‘Medieval Fight’.
